How To Find Great Automobile Deals - A Short Car Auction Guide by Devraaj Khattri

Attending automobile auctions is a great way to find good deals on automobiles that have been seized by government entities if they were used in the commission of a crime or by private financial institutions if the original owner was not able to make all of the payments required. Contrary to popular belief, attending car auctions is not a sure fire way to find a vast array of automobiles being sold at below value. On the contrary, most vehicles sold at car auctions tend to go for their approximate value. Nevertheless, with careful research and planning, it is possible to find cars at auction that sell below their blue book value. Car auction attendees tend to fall into two categories. The first, and most common, is the interested novice who read about the auction in a newspaper or heard about it in a radio advertisement. Lured by the promise of below market automobile purchases, they head to the auction site unprepared and bid on any automobile that strikes their fancy. They typically either leave the auction empty handed or in an automobile that they paid far too much for. The other type of auction attendee is the one who does his homework and takes advantage of opportunities to inspect the vehicles in the days leading up to the auction. This latter individual is much more likely to walk away from the auction either with a bargain or with nothing at all. The most important thing to remember about car auctions is the following simple and often disappointing fact - the vast majority of cars sold at auction are sold at or above blue book value. This is surprising to hear since most television and radio advertisements for car auctions trumpet the vast savings that can be had. Most people who attend car auctions are either used car vendors or savvy civilians. Most of them know exactly how much a car is worth, and many have deep pockets that can bid on all of the best deals. A few such individual can drive bids on all of the automobiles up to or beyond their actual value. The only way to come out ahead in a car auction is to be smarter than the other bidders. Remember that many of the automobiles on the auction block have been flooded, wrecked, stolen, or may have been mistreated in a number of other ways. Any reputable car auction will make all cars on the block available for inspection a few days before the auction. It is a good idea to run a title check on any automobile that you are interested in purchasing. While the auction is supposed to run title checks as well, they are not always entirely trust worthy. The smart buyer will record then vehicle identification (VIN) number themselves and run a title check later, or phone the VIN to someone and have them run the check for them. They can get faster information this way and know quickly whether to pursue the car further or look elsewhere.

H.I.D. LIGHTS WORK BETTER THAN HALOGEN by Jennifer Franco

There are many reasons why H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge) lights work better than normal halogen headlights. A car aficionado might tell you that it's all down to how it looks when they're driving the car. However, a smart driver can tell a lot more than that.
He can probably say that halogen lights are made from filaments that are filled with halogen gases, while H.I.D. lights don't have any filaments at all. However, these are only basic information. The truth is, there are a lot more things to know about them, and if you consider yourself a part of the smart ones, you should definitely read on.

The first thing you should remember is that H.I.D. lights work better because they are much brighter compared to halogen lights. The average lumen (the amount of brightness that comes from a light source) of an H.I.D. light is about 3000 lumens. Compare this with a typical halogen light which is 1400 lumens, and you'll see the point. In fact, studies from experts even show that drivers react faster and more accurately to minor roadway mishaps when they are using H.I.D. headlamps rather than the halogen ones. The testers believe that the primary reason is due to clearer visibility when using H.I.D. lights.

The second thing you need to know is that H.I.D. burners give off more light from less power than halogen lights. What this means from the average consumer is that power consumption is significantly reduced. What's more, reduced fuel consumption can consequently produce lesser CO2 emissions per vehicle. This leads to a much cleaner and greener environment.

Third, H.I.D. lights work better than halogen lamps because their average life span is 2000 hours, while a halogen lamp runs for about 450 to 1000 hours. This translates to getting the maximum amount of benefits for your dollars. The reason for this is that H.I.D. headlights work longer than halogen lights because they don't include filaments and halogen gases to emit light. Have you ever wondered why some of your household halogen lights literally burn out? It's the filament inside it. H.I.D. headlights, on the other hand, don't use filaments. They only use gases. When an electric current is placed through them, they give off a much more visible light than using filaments alone. And since there are no filaments, you don't have to worry about malfunctioned headlights when you're driving long distances.

Now that you have all the information that you need, do some studies of your own. Research more about them, and try to experiment with both headlights. If you're smart, you'll conclude that H.I.D. lights work better than halogen headlights all the time.

Protect Your Cars Paintwork By Pieter Le Roux

Today's car finishes are very delicate and require special care. Avoid washing your car at automated car washes as this is a sure way of damaging your cars paint work. The best method to clean a car is still doing it by hand. You will need two buckets filled with clean hot or cold water and a wash mitt. Only use the best car wash products on the market. Do not use any household cleaners as it will damage your cars paint. Park your car in the shade, use a hosepipe to remove and soften the dirt on your cars paintwork. Open the tap just a little as you want a slow flow of water, don't use a strong jet of water because the high pressure will blast dirt particles into the clear cote that protects the base coat. Start with the roof and work your way down.

When you have hosed the car down, open the tap for a stronger jet of water and remove the dirt under the wheel arches, reduce the flow and hose the tires and rims. Follow the directions of the car wash liquid and mix the required quantity into one of the buckets with water. Place both buckets next to the car; dunk the wash mitt into the bucket with the car wash liquid and start washing the roof working your way down. Rinse the mitt frequently in the bucket with clean water. When you have finished washing the car, take the hosepipe and rinse the car to remove the soap suds from the cars paint. Most people don't dry the car, but for the best results dry the car preferably with a microfiber towel or a chamois leather. Use a separate towel or chamois leather for the mags. For the best protection of your cars paintwork polish your car at least once every three months. Always follow the instructions on the polish container. If your car has mags use a good brand of mag cleaner and polish to put the shine back on them. Clean the windows with window cleaner and use tire polish to polish your cars tires. Never use dirty water, cloths or abrasive polishes. When you are finished you can step back and admire your bright and shiny car, knowing that the paintwork on your car will stay in a superb condition for years to come.

Car Amplifier Basics by Chris Dro

Lets start by recognizing the different types of amplifiers. You've got your basic mono channel amplifier, your two channel amplifier, and then you have multiple channel amplifiers. A "channel" is simply one set of positive and negative terminals (+/-) coming out of the amplifier that you use to supply power, or drive, to your speakers or subwoofers. A mono channel amplifier has one set of terminals, two channel amplifiers have two, and multiple channel amplifiers range from anywhere between 3-5 channels. Now lets go into details discussing their best intended applications. We'll also answer the questions that are asked most frequently.

Mono Channel Amplifers-
Mono channel amplifiers tend to be class "D" amplifiers. Class "D" amplifiers have a high power to heat ratio, which is exactly what you are looking for when powering subwoofers that demand a lot of power. Class "D" amplifiers are also known to be very efficient. Since mono channel amplifiers work best at 2 ohms of impedance, they are best suited to drive either a singe 4 ohm "dual voice coil" subwoofer, or two 4 ohm subwoofers that only have "one voice coil" each.

Why are mono channel amps best suited for these setups? Because every speakers presents a load impedance to the power that is supplied to it from the amplifier. This load impedance is measured in a unit known as "ohms". Most subwoofer speakers present 4 ohms of resistance. If wired correctly, you will lower the load impedance that the amplifier sees. You will lower the impedance down to 2 ohms, which is where most mono channel amplifiers are build to perform the best.

Two Channel Amplifiers- A two channel amplifier is an amplifier that can operate one right, and one left hand channel. It is basically two mono channel amplifiers in a single box. Since two channel amplifiers are typically stable when presented with 4 ohms of impedance, they are best suited to drive either one 4 ohm "single voice coil" subwoofer, or two 4 ohm "dual voice coil" subwoofers. To run these setups, you have to "bridge" the channels coming from the amplifier. Not all two channel amplifiers are bridgeable, so be sure that your two channel amp is bridgeable before you buy it.

What is "bridging"? Lets say that you are looking to purchase a two channel amplifier that is rated at 500 watts RMS. You must know that the amplifier does not supply 500 watts of power from each channel. Instead, each channel alone will supply around 200-250 watts. In order to get the advertised 500 watts, you have to combine the two channels into one channel. This is called "bridging" the channels.

*Note- Be careful when "bridging" the connections because if it isn't done properly, then you will destroy your amplifier.

Multiple Channel Amplifiers- Multiple channel amplifiers allow you to hook up multiple speakers (typically front two and rear two) while still allowing you to control your balance and fading options. When shopping for multiple channel amplifiers, you will find that although most are still rated in the 2-4 ohm impedance range, some are rated around 20-40 ohms of impedance. The only time you would ever need an amplifier like this is if you were to wire multiple speakers in a "series". Multiple channel amplifiers can be used to run subwoofers, but you have to make sure that the amplifier's channels are bridgeable since most of the time, each channel alone of a multiple channel amplifier does not give out nearly enough watts.

What is "series" wiring? Instead of wiring each speaker separately to each channel of an amplifier, sometimes it is recommended that you wire two or more speakers together. Once the speakers are wired together, you want to wire the entire unit of speakers to one channel of the amplifier. To wire the speakers together, you simply run a speaker wire from the positive terminal of one speaker to the negative terminal of another speaker. Once you have done this, you run speaker wires from the channels of your amp to your remaining terminals.

*Note- You must keep track of load impedance when you are wiring speakers in "series". When wiring in a series, you simply add up the number of ohms of each speaker. Make sure your amplifier is rated to run at that high of an impedance.

Body Kit Materials Used in the car industry

When dealing with the look and feel of a car, as compared to race cars that you may have seen, there are two basic materials used for body kits - urethane and fiberglass.

Urethane is the main product used to make a Wings West body kit which explains why Wings West has such a good reputation for high quality radically styled body kits. Urethane is also fairly resistant to small “bumps” and will resist denting. It's very strong and can take a good amount of banging around before damaging. The only downside to urethane (if it has one at all) is that once damaged, it will probably have to be replaced. Although urethane body kit prices can be pretty high, you will also find the quality is equally as high. Urethane is at its core is a hard but flexible type of rubber. When one of these urethane body kits are installed, you will find that they are much easier to install than a fiberglass body kit (hence: saves money on installation) and it will last you for a very long time.

Fiberglass, on the other hand is less expensive (roughly half as much for materials as a urethane body kit). There are several upsides, but mainly the price to consider about fiberglass body kits and products. Variety is one of those key factors. No matter what the car or what the style that is sought out, a fiberglass part can most likely be found to fit the need. Since they are fiberglass, a lot of the time a body kit can be repaired if the damage is not too extensive. Some of the more popular carriers of fiberglass body kits are Extreme Dimensions and Kaminari.

These are the two main materials used when selecting a body kit, and people can go either way when deciding. If you are looking for high quality and durability, then urethane is your best option.. If money is a concern or a specialty item is required, fiberglass is most likely the best solution for you. However, either of the products can be found on many cars, and many people will even choose to mix and match fiberglass and urethane, depending on the part, on the same car. Once painted, its pretty hard to tell without close inspection between fiberglass and urethane.
